Sally S. Wolford, 74, of Galesburg, passed away at home with her family at her side on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Sally was born on November 27, 1950 in Galesburg. She was the daughter of Lee O. and Doris S. (White) Dowds. Sally married the love of her life, Robert A. Wolford on February 7, 1970 at the Knoxville Christian Church. Surviving Sally are her husband, Robert at home; children, Robert (Rachel Grzela) Wolford, Thomas (Jennifer) Wolford, Amy Wolford, all of Galesburg and Cathy Snell of Moline; nineteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Shawn Dowds of Downingtown, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-son, Chad Brittingham and two siblings, Roy Dowds and Marlene Dowds.
Sally was a 1968 graduate of Knoxville High School. She received her RN Degree and was a member of the last graduating class of the Galesburg Cottage Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1971. Sally worked at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg and she finished her nursing career at Henry Hill Correctional Center leaving in 2003. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Galesburg. Sally enjoyed sewing-especially doll clothes for charity, leatherwork, macrame, and crochet. She loved going to flea markets, "where she could buy whatever she wanted." According to her children, 'Sally loved to collect dogs and grandkids." She loved loved her pets and loved more than anything being a grandmother.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes, Knoxville. Cremation rites will be accorded after visitation. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville will be assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be donated to the Faith United Methodist Church, Galesburg. Expressions of sympathy may be left to the family at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
