Rosedale, VA, Sammy Dale Hess, age 67, passed away, July 9, 2024, in Russell County Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1957, in Richlands, VA to the late Burke Hess and Virginia Hess. Sammy was a 1975 graduate of Honaker High School and retired after 35 years of service from Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He enjoyed cooking, watching TV, and fishing.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Fields Hess, two brothers, Willard Dean Hess and Michael Foster Hess.
He is survived by his son, Sam Hess and wife, Vickie; granddaughter, Macie Wallace and husband, Connor; great-granddaughter on the way, Lainie Wallace; sister, Deanna “Pheebe” Rowe and husband, Chris; sister-in-law, Cathy Hess; special cousin, Audrey Key; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews also survive.
Special thank you to all his friends and neighbors, Mark and Hazel Phillips, Lisa McGlothlin, Joyce Jones, and Thomas Harris.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 pm, Thursday, July 11, 2024 in Combs-Hess Funeral & Cremation Service with entombment to be conducted 11am Friday, July 12, 2024 in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Justin Blankenship officiating. Everyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 am.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Phillips, Sheriff Bill Watson, Doc Adams, Mason Phillips, Josh McGlothlin, Bob McComas, Thomas Harris, Makenzie Phillips, K.P. Bartee, Jeff Arwood, Jeff Miller, Randy Miller, Mark Cox, Kenny Musick, Steve McGlothlin, Marshall McGlothlin, Tom Kennedy, Joel Sample, Barry Sample, Oscar Soublo, Bobby Gross, Joel Gilmer, Gary Musick, Greg McReynolds, Wendell Hart, Dave Mullins and Larry Belcher and all the men he worked with on the railroad.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
