Sandy Martinez, age 72, of Kansas City, KS passed away October 30th, 2024 in Olathe KS at Olathe Medical Center, after a short illness. Her niece Roni and husband Jesse, and great friend Trisha were at her side.
Sandy was born Sandra Jean Tommer on March 1st, 1952 in Boise Idaho to Melvin and Nelda Tommer (Kendrick). She was raised in Blue Rapids, KS and graduated from Valley Heights High School. She later attended Kansas State University.
Sandy was married to Flavio for 25 years until his passing in 2015. Sandy and Flavio enjoyed many trips to Barrow, Alaska to enjoy the Northern Lights, ice sculptures, polar bears in the wild, and dog sled rides.
Sandy spent 24 years at General Motors, working in many areas of the company before retiring as a Benefits Representative in February 2020. During her time at General Motors, she was an active UAW member. After retirement she spent many hours doing crafts, baking, yardwork, and making people smile.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Flavio, father Melvin Tommer, and niece Kimberly Weeks.
She left behind her mother Nelda Tommer, sister Sharon Elnicki, niece Roni and husband Jesse Anderson, great nephew Brandon Ray, great niece Samantha Storm, and other extended family members.
She also left behind close friends Trisha Jachlewski and Shawana Woods as well as many others she met during her working career and other activities.
A memorial service for Sandy Martinez will be held Friday, November 8th, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas.
