Shiela (Dubrin) Cohen, 93, of Vernon, beloved wife of 56 years to the late Benjamin Cohen, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 21, 2024. She was born on November 5, 1930, in Milwaukee, WI, one of three children to Louis and Marion (Horowitz) Dubrin.
Shiela grew up in Milwaukee and completed her education there. After high school, she enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, where she earned a bachelor's degree in speech therapy. For many years, she helped students overcome speech impediments, ensuring they felt comfortable and confident throughout the process. Known for her famous brisket and oven-fried potatoes, Shiela also cherished the fall and winter months when she could be found in front of her television cheering on her favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. Rarely missing a game, she made her allegiance known to all. In her downtime, she enjoyed curling up with a good mystery novel.
Shiela is survived by her two daughters, Anita Cohen of Niantic and Kathy Burke and her husband, Jeff, of Vernon; her four grandchildren, Jacob Etter, Sam Etter and his wife, Michelle Faits, Joshua Burke and his wife, Katie Lazuk, and Allie Burke; her brother, Jim Dubrin and his wife, Bev, of Walnut Creek, CA; and her sister, Sue Dubrin of Milwaukee, WI. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her granddaughter, Katelyn Burke.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Rte. 83) in Vernon. At the family's request, burial will be private. To leave an online message of condolence for her family, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
