Shirley Thompson Obituary

Shirley Gay Thompson, age 89, of Henderson, KY, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Lucy Smith King Care Center under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice. Shirley was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. She was a school bus driver for the Henderson County School System for over 30 years. After retirement, Shirley worked at Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center where she assisted with the children and also worked at Goody's. She loved family and keeping in touch with her friends via Facebook and facetime. Shirley was a soft-spoken lady with a good heart. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Alphonso and Bertha Hamilton and her husband Dalton Thompson. She is survived by her daughters: Patty Caton, Laura Scott, and Kim Lowery all of Henderson, KY; son James Thompson (Dana) of Hendeson, KY; 8 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Shirley's Life Celebration from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Henderson with Father Richard Meredith officiating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony's Hospice 2410 S.
