Sonia LaFe, of Tampa, 82, passed on Thursday September, 19, 2024 surrounded by family. Sonia was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Sonia, born on April 17,1942. Being the oldest of 3 she always liked to take charge and she loved life and was always welcoming to those who crossed her path. She graduated the Old Jefferson High School and remained friends with those same High School girls she grew up with. Sonia worked and retired from Hillsborough County School and was devoted to the Spina Bifida Association of Tampa for countless years and was even President for a time. Sonia helped to get laws passed for disabled persons and bring about much needed funding to families with special needs. She spent countless hours on the phone supporting new parents with Spina Bifida children.
Sonia met her cherished husband Angel LaFe and married in 1960, they had 3 sons. Sonia was the life of the party and loved to dance. She hosted countless family gatherings and luncheons with the ladies. She had a love of reading and like to garden. Sonia loved a good shortcut but we would all joke she better have a full tank of gas. Sonia had quirky saying like "Heavens to Mugatroyd", "Heavens to Betsy" and You're going to have a good time or else. It's hard to sum up her life, it was full, it was hard, it was filled with love. Sonia didn't have an easy life but she was always upbeat and ready to face a new day and she was always ready for some fun. She enjoyed the little things like taking a drive to the river, going to the beach after a storm and going on a Bo's ice cream run late at night. She taught many of us how to really live right where you are with what you have.
Sonia is proceeded in death by parents, Julian & Hope Torress, husband Angel LaFe Sr and son Angel LaFe Jr.
She is survived by her son Robert LaFe, Daughter-In-Law Stacy LaFe, son Michael LaFe, sister Helen Gaudin, Brother-In-Law Rod Gaudin, Brother Robert Torress, Sister-In-Law Nancy Torress, nieces, nephews and countless extended family.
The celebration of life is planned for October 20th at 1:00, at Michael's house. Please call Hope if you have questions 813-215-1777

We have lived across the street from Sonia and Michael for five years. We have a daughter with cerebral palsy and Sonia and I discussed our special children on occasion. My husband would often return the trash receptacle to the side of Sonia's house after it was emptied. She would thank him by bringing us baked goodies! She was a very sweet lady and we will miss her.
