A woman who loved the holidays, Loretta "Sue" Shields (nee Charles), of Middletown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the age of 80.
Born on Saturday, July 15, 1944, in Middletown, Sue was destined to be a matriarch. She met the love of her life, Larry James Shields, at the age of 15. The young couple were soon married and began building a life full of laughter and love. In her opinion, holidays were a great excuse to get everyone together and provided Sue the perfect opportunity to be the hostess with the mostest!
A social-butterfly, Sue never met a stranger. In fact, she looked forward to turning strangers into friends. A lady that always had a Pepsi in her hand, loved to suntan regardless of the warnings, could swim her cares away, Sue had the unique ability to shed a positive light on any situation. She will be forever loved and cherished by all that knew her.
Sue was preceded in death by: parents, George and Ella (nee Whisman) Charles; brother, Thomas Charles; brother-in-law, Darrell Montgomery; and sister-in-law, Nola Charles.
Sue is survived by: husband of 64 years, Larry Shields; children, Donald (Reneissa) Shields, David (Carol) Shields, Kevin (Donna Rae) Shields, and Angela (Terry) Johnson; grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon (Paulette), Brittany (Chris), Joshua, Chelsea, Haley, Olivia, Cody (Katie), and Abigail (RJ); great-grandchildren, Everly, Luna, Emma, Elijah, Asher, and Charlie; siblings, Wanda Montgomery, Ronald Charles, Carol Jean Jackson, and Lin (Chris) Charles; fur-babies, Ginger and Stanley; and many loving family members and friends.
Sue was firm to instruct that she did not want any services to be held. To honor her the best they can, her family will continue to put one foot in front of the other, keep the tears to a minimum, and smile every time they open a Pepsi.
Donations in memory of Sue may be directed to Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties.
