Susan E. (Albom) Wernick, 75, of Vernon, beloved wife of 51 years to Michael A. Wernick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 2, 2024. She was born on January 19, 1949, in Hartford, one of three children to the late Milton and Clare (Marcus) Albom.
Sue grew up in Vernon, attended local schools and was a graduate of Rockville High School, Class of 1967. Following high school, she enrolled in the University of Connecticut where she earned her master's degree in education. After earning her degree, she and her husband moved to Pennsylvania where she began employment as a special needs teacher while her husband finished his degree in dentistry. After earning his degree, the two relocated to Washington D.C. for a year as Michael was in the U.S. Air Force, before ultimately returning to Vernon where they have resided since. Sue was employed as a travel agent for many years with various entities in and around the Vernon area, before the final ten years of her career before her retirement where she owned and operated her own agency, Sue Wernick Tours and Travel in Vernon. There, she built many friendships and truly enjoyed her profession as well as the people she helped along the way. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling the globe with her family and friends and loved frequenting the beach, especially down in Palm Beach, FL. Sue was also a very active individual. She looked forward to workout classes, dancing, and any way to stay active as she hated sitting still. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her husband, daughters, granddaughter, friends and her beloved cats, Bert, Teensy, Izzy, and Gray. Although our time with Sue has come to an end, her smile, demeanor, and caring personality will be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends for years to come.
In addition to her husband, Sue is survived by her two daughters, Marni DiRocco and her husband Tim of Vernon, and Jamie Markuszka and her husband Phil of Glastonbury; her granddaughter, Olivia Markuszka; her two brothers, Michael Albom and his wife Lia and their children Blair and Mark, of Manhattan, NY, and Robert Albom and his wife Sandi of Windsor Locks. She was predeceased by both of her parents.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., (Rte 83) in Vernon. There will be no formal service and burial will be held privately. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Protectors of Animals, Inc., 144 Main St., Ste. O, East Hartford, CT 06118. So very sorry to hear of Sue's death. She was a delightful woman and so much fun to share our love of tap dancing. Our class will miss her.

So very sorry to just find out about Sue's passing. She was a wonderful and caring woman and we enjoyed playing golf and having lunch with she and Mike.
Sue also helped us arrange cruises and we enjoyed several with she and her family. I will miss her beautiful smile and soft spoken manner
