Gail Stephens Henry, a beacon of joy and kindness, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born into the warm embrace of Homer E Stephens and Ollie Pearl Stephens, Gail's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and dedication. She was the cherished wife of the late Harold "Hank" P. Henry, and together they danced through life's challenges and triumphs.
Gail's legacy is lovingly carried on by her devoted daughter, Abby Gail (Clayton), Guy of Dadeville, AL, and her son, Phillip S (Barbara) Henry of Rockmart, GA. Her joy was multiplied with her grandson, Carlisle (Brannon) Guy. Gail's heart knew no bounds, as evidenced by her adopted sons, Tim (Jerry Lynn) Spears and Ty (Barbara Ann) Spears, and the many nieces, nephews, and adopted grandchildren who were blessed to call her family. She was predeceased by her father, mother, beloved husband, sisters Christine Stephens Stone, Jean Stephens Hutcherson, Sarah Stephens Brown, Henrietta Stephens Cotney, brother Homer Groce Stephens, and daughter Tammy Henry.
She was a proud graduate of Daviston High School where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. Gail's early career as a telephone operator at Southern Bell showcased her warm voice and welcoming spirit. In 1955, she married Hank, the love of her life, and embraced the adventures of being a military wife for 20 years. Their journey together led them to settle in Alexander City after Hank's retirement, where Gail continued to connect people as a telephone operator at Russell Corporation for 25 years.
Gail's faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devout Christian, she exemplified the virtues of love, kindness, and compassion in every action and interaction. Her laughter was infectious, and her presence in a room was like a ray of sunshine piercing through the clouds. The residents and staff at Chapman's Assisted Living were kept in stitches by her infectious humor.
Her interests were as vibrant as her personality. Gail and Hank were known for their love of dancing, be it square dancing or swing dancing, they moved together in perfect harmony. An avid bowler, Gail's competitive spirit was always in good fun, and her skills were admired by many. Her prowess in the kitchen was legendary; she was a wonderful cook whose meals were as much a comfort to the soul as they were a delight to the palate.
Gail Stephens Henry lived a life that was funny, loving, and kind. She was the embodiment of the joy she brought to others, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we do so with the knowledge that her spirit will forever dance in the hearts of those she touched. Her laughter, her love, and her kindness are the gifts she leaves behind, a legacy that will continue to echo through generations.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to the wonderful staff at Chapman's Assisted Living for the wonderful care given to their loved one.
