Carol A. Waymire of Spring, Texas, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed in peace Monday, October 14, 2024. Born February 1, 1936, in Indianapolis, IN, she attended Ball State University where she met and married the love of her life David C. Waymire.
After college graduation in 1959, they moved to Houston where she started her devoted teaching career of 25 years. She taught Home Economics at Reagan, Westbury, and Madison High School, and finally Klein High School. She was the consummate teacher always ready to help a student with any project or a life lesson. Early in her career she invited a struggling student to come live with our family to gain stability in her teenage life. Joanie Dettling became a cherished member of our family until she passed away in 1997.
Carol was a beautiful seamstress and very talented pattern maker. She was able to copy a garment in the department store dressing room using a piece of paper, tape measure and a pencil at the request of family and friends who wanted the look with just a few changes to the design. Carol was also an avid reader. She was a member of the same book club for over 40 years and enjoyed long-lasting friendships with her fellow book lovers.
Never afraid of hard work and always busy, after her retirement from teaching in 1986 she started her own company, the Waymire Group, where she worked a second career representing educational publishers across the Houston area and beyond, until she retired again in 2004. The Waymire Group still operates today with her strong foundational spirit as a guiding force.
Carol's biggest accomplishments were her three children. She was steadfast, proud and supportive of all their life choices and always there to show her love. That devotion was extended to her six grandchildren as well, teaching them that hard work and a fierce determination can drive your dreams. If you knew Carol, you knew she was strong willed, independent and smart but also always smiling and positive in her outlook, and we will miss her presence in our lives.
She is preceded in death by her father Herbert Brickler, her mother Marceil Brickler Amfahr, her husband David C. Waymire, her son in law Will F. Reistroffer and grandson Simon David Reistroffer. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Lisa Hinds and husband Bill and their children, Hannah, husband Josh, great granddaughter Daphne, Grace, husband Ramsey and Sam, wife Kennedy, daughter Marci Reistroffer and her children Jake, wife Linleigh and Ava, son John Waymire and his husband Roy Ramirez and her brother Jack Brickler as well as a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the many friends and family who provided love and support during Carol's illness, especially Gelesa Castle and the ladies at Joni Milton Home Health Services.
A private family burial will take place at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, The Arbor School or the charity of your choice.
