John T. Woller, age 73, of Dubuque, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with his family by his side. To honor John's life, family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, where there will be a parish scripture service held at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Holy Ghost Church, 2921 Central Avenue, with Rev. Steven M. Garner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
John was born on March 20, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Francis Matthew and Hazel Marie (Walsh) Woller.
John graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School and N.I.T.I. He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was extremely proud of his service and was a member of the Dubuque Marine Corps League and the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. John was a proud member of the funeral detail honoring fellow veterans. He volunteered countless hours cleaning and maintaining the rifles and working on the military jeep. He married Marlene Link on May 28, 1977, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Sherrill. Together they had 3 beautiful daughters and made a wonderful life for themselves. John was always a hard worker. Throughout the years he was employed with the Dubuque Packing Company, F.D.L. Foods, John Deere Dubuque Works and Trausch Baking Company. He devoted 26 years of his career to the Dubuque Golf and Country Club, where he was the Building Superintendent. John was in charge of everything from maintaining the buildings, the General Manager's house, the pool and bar, to the awesome fireworks displays put on every 4th of July. He was very active with the community and was a member of the Eagles Club, Holy Spirit Parish and U.A.W. Local 94. In his younger years, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating on the Mississippi. Holidays, birthdays, celebrating Veteran's Day and family dinners were some of his favorite events. He was also a cat lover, and his animals were treated like royalty. John was a great example of putting others before yourself and was always willing to go the extra mile to help anyone who needed assistance. He will be greatly missed by his girls and all of his family and friends.
