Thomas Allemeier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services - Shawnee on Aug. 25, 2024.
Thomas Lee "Tom" Allemeier, age 73, passed away August 22, 2024, in his hometown of Lima, Ohio. Tom was known for his gentle spirit, Kindness to others, and giving his time and money to those in need.
Tom was born December 10, 1950, in Lima, OH, to Paul Ezrom and Janet M. (Gifford) Allemeier who both preceded him in death.
Tom graduated from Elida High School in 1969. Shortly thereafter, he entered the military, joining the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Tom was awarded the Bronze Star, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Medal with Palm, and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning to the United States, he enrolled at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1990.
Tom loved to travel and experience other cultures. He went to Nepal on trekking expeditions. When he returned to Vietnam on a vacation, he decided he wanted to live there. So, he moved to Ho Chi Minh City to live and work teaching English at the International English School. He remained in Vietnam for 25 years until Covid conditions made it too difficult to continue living there. During the time he lived in Vietnam, he was able to travel to many areas of Asia including making numerous trips to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and other places.
Tom was recognized many times by The Ohio State University for his time and effort assisting people with disabilities and for his contribution to helping people with visual impairments. When Tom saw a need, he stepped up to help his friends, neighbors, and strangers. While living in Vietnam, he purchased a wheelchair for someone that he saw struggling to move without one. He consistently helped local children and his neighbors who became his dear friends. While living in Lima, he drove neighbors to work and appointments. He was selfless and gave what he had to others with great joy.
He is survived his two sisters, Connie (Stanley) Campbell of Carmel, IN, and Candace (Richard) France of Ostrander, OH; brother, James (Lynn) McEachern of CA; and brother-in-law, Jim Bradford.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmom, Betty Allemeier, three sisters, Sue Stephens, Terry Bradford, Mary Protsman; and a brother, Jeff McEachern.
No services will be observed.

Hi teacher Tom, I cannot believe that you are gone already...I know it has been more than a year passed but only now that I hear about the news. You were the best teacher I have ever met in Vietnam, your kindness and understanding is outstanding. I have never met a foreigner that is like you who does not discriminate but love everyone despite their races so much. This world lost an angel and I wish that we could have talked one last time before I could never hear from you again...I love and miss you dearly teacher, we will miss again one day. Rest in peace, teacher...
