Thomas Lee Flowers, age 94, was born in Big Sandy, Tennessee on October 14, 1930, to Doss H. and Nell Flowers. He attended Big Sandy School and grew up and worked on the family farm with his four brothers and one sister. At 17 years old he married Marybelle (Myrt) Bevill. They have four children, Carol McDaniel, Jim (Peggy) Flowers, Linda Maynard, and Judy (Randall) Robertson, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. They had been married 67 years when Myrt passed away in June 2016. Thomas had been an active member of Ramble Creek Baptist Church for more than 60 years.
Besides his wife and parents, Thomas was preceded in death by brothers, E.G. Flowers, Dossie Flowers, Robert Flowers, and Kenneth Flowers, a sister, Mary V. Rushing, and a son-in-law, Steve McDaniel.
After purchasing the farm on Ramble Creek Road in 1950, they moved into his current home in 1957. Although he had a full-time job, Thomas grew corn, soybeans and cotton along with hay for his cows, horses and mules. There was always a large garden to feed the family and he took great joy in giving his produce away to neighbors and friends. Also growing on the farm were strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, apples, cherries, grapes, peaches, pears, watermelon and cantaloupe.
After retiring from Midland Brake after 27 years of service, he began restoring antique John Deere tractors. As a member of the Benton County Twin Cylinder Tractor Club he participated in numerous tractor shows, fairs and parades in the area and won numerous trophies. He had participated in the Big Sandy Spring Festival parade for many years. In 2018 he was honored as Grand Marshall of that festival and led the parade driving his restored 1960 model 530 John Deere.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and community.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM and again on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home in Big Sandy. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM, Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Ramble Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro Cameron Berry will officiate.
His family would like to thank the staff of Eiffel Gardens Assisted Living in Paris, Tennessee for their love and great care during his last three months.
