It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of our beloved Thomas E. Muniz. Thomas passed away and entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on January 29, 2025.
Thomas was born on May 7, 1939 to the late Juan Pablo and Josephina Muniz in La Canada, NM. Thomas was a lifelong resident of Wagon Mound, NM. He attended Wagon Mound Schools until his Senior Year in High School when, at the age of 17, he briefly left his hometown to serve in the United States Air Force where he served from 1956 to 1960. Upon returning home, he met the love of his life, Maria (Venny) Martinez. They were married on May 5, 1962 and raised their family, which included two children, Fred and Frances, in Wagon Mound, NM. Thomas and Venny were married for nearly 63 years. He was a deeply devoted Husband and He and his wife were inseparable.
Thomas was also a dedicated employee of the New Mexico State Highway Department, retiring as Supervisor of the Wagon Mound Patrol in 1994, after 28 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, being outdoors and just being retired. He was a Jack of all trades who could fix anything. His example of love for his family, strong faith, strength and courage will always be admired and followed by his family.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Pablo and Josephina Muniz; his Sister, Virginia Garcia; Father & Mother In Law, Eduardo &Josefita Martinez; Brothers In Law, Alfred Martinez and Edwin Lopez; Godson James Lopez and numerous extended family.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Maria V. Muniz, Son Fredrick T. Muniz (special friend, Michelle) Daughter, Frances Lucero (Albert), and his Sister, Sylvia Garcia (Joe); Special Daughter in Law that he considered a daughter, Judy Muniz; Sisters In Law: Martha Lopez, Corine Armijo (Jose) and Tina Cordova; Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Nichole Duran, Marcos Lucero (Alysha), Adam Muniz (Darin), Kristina Lucero-Martinez (Francisco), Corey Muniz, Anjelica Lucero and Ariana Lucero. Ten great-grandchildren: Nicholas Lucero, Ayzlyn Martinez, Xavier Lucero, Andreus Martinez, Analee Muniz, Dominic Lucero, Izaias Martinez, Miles Muniz, Azaleya Lucero and Marcos Lucero, Jr; Godchildren, Genevieve Garcia & Ernest Armijo and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He will be truly missed!
Thomas was a devoted Catholic and a lifelong parishioner of Santa Clara Parish in Wagon Mound, NM.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 with a Rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at the Santa Clara Parish in Wagon Mound, NM with Father Augustine Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Santa Clara Parish with Full Military Honors and the following serving as pallbearers Ernest Armijo, Francisco (Kiko) Martinez, Marcos Lucero, Adam Muniz, Corey Muniz and Rio Armijo. Honorary Pallberars will be Joe Garcia and Jose Sanchez. Reception to follow at Santa Clara Parish Hall in Wagon Mound, NM
