Thomas Weger, 73, of Inwood, WV, formerly of Flat Rock, IL, passed away on October 17, 2024. He was born July 14, 1951, in Lawrenceville, IL, the son of Glenn and Gwendolyn Weger.
Tom graduated from Robinson High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and then graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in engineering. He married Kaye Parrott on May 31, 1975. Kaye preceded Tom in death after 47 years of marriage. Tom's career at Ford Motor Company gave him the opportunity to take his family around the globe and live in Japan and Mexico. A career highlight for him was producing the first Aerostar van in the U.S. at the St. Louis (Hazelwood) Assembly Plant. At his core, Tom was a family man. When it came to his family - no matter what - he always made time and put them first. He loved happy hours with Kaye, hitting tennis balls with Kristina, and coaching Nick in roller hockey.
When Tom retired, he easily transitioned into the next stage of his life. Tom and Kaye enjoyed planning trips to visit family and friends, fishing on their boat, playing golf, and spending time with their grandchildren. He took up woodworking later in life and constructed many thoughtful gifts, including two different swing sets. Following the loss of his wife, Tom continued to live life to the fullest. He never missed an opportunity to try something new or have a good time. In 2023, he moved to Inwood, WV to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He made friends quickly and enjoyed weekly game nights, despite coming in last during card games.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristina Weger, and son, Nick Weger (Kristina) and grandchildren: Evelyn, August, and Cyrus Weger; his brothers: Mike (Julie) and Joe (Shawnee) Weger. He is also survived by his cousin Sherri Butcher (Tony) and sisters-in-law, Sabra Adams (Floyd), Karen Holt (Rick), Tammie Wellbaum (Jeff), and Greta Lowry (Al) - along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends and neighbors from the numerous communities where he lived during his life.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25th, at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Flat Rock, IL, with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor J.D. Branson. A graveside service will follow at the Jones Cemetery, and a lunch will be served back at the church at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the "Cystic Fibrosis Foundation", in honor of Tom's niece, Ashley Weger. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements.
