Verna A. Schaefer, 95, passed away peacefully to be with her Savior on Tuesday, January 7. Verna was born May 15, 1929, in Wonewoc, WI, the daughter of Fred W. and Adela (Hahn) Schaefer. Verna was baptized on May 24, 1929, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wonewoc, WI, and confirmed on April 18, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church, Wilmington, Delaware. 

Survivors include nieces Kathleen Wiesenthal of Houston, Texas; Kim Schultz of Newport News, Virginia; nephew Mark Schultz, Fredericksburg, Virginia; and many other relatives and friends. Verna was preceded in death by her parents and sister Vera Schultz. 

The memorial service for Verna will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Reverend David Szeto will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the church. Burial will take place at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Verna’s name to St. John Lutheran Church are requested.
