Vernice "Shorty" Maxwell, 83, of Hereford, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Shorty was born on July 25, 1941, in Maryville, California, to Ellis Maxwell and Myrtle Tubbs Maxwell.

Shorty was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On December 11, 1981, he married Jean Post, with whom he shared many happy years. Shorty had a love for working on cars and a particular passion for antique vehicles. He was especially proud of the complete restoration of his 1959 Ford Thunderbird.
Shorty is survived by his devoted wife, Jean Maxwell of Hereford, Texas; his children, Allen Wright of Hereford, Texas, Sharon Ruland and her husband Robin of Amarillo, Texas, Karen Hacker and her husband Keith of Hereford, Texas, and Heath "Smiley" Maxwell and his wife Paula of Hereford, Texas. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, who will always cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Myrtle Maxwell; his siblings, Joyce Wunrow, Pat Springs, and his twin brother, Bernie; and his beloved granddaughter, Jessica Wright.
Shorty's legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
May his soul rest in peace.
