Caroline Strauss passed away 12/26/24 just one month shy of her 89 birthday. She was the daughter of Joseph and Eloise (Akin) Fix. She attended Wooster College for two years and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's Degree in 1958. She then received a Masters Degree in Social Work from Boston University in 1960 where she met her husband, Roger. They were married in 1963. She worked for Family Services in Cincinnati and Ann Arbor during the early '60s. In 1970 she received a degree from the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts after which the family moved to Moretown, Vermont.
During the 1970s Caroline made tie dyed clothing, especially scarves. In the 80's she made Pig Aprons; in the 90s she switched to Buckwheat Pillows; and in the first decade of the 2000s she painted on silk. She was active in her community, being a member of the Moretown Community Club and helping to establish the PTO at the Moretown School as well as being a School Board member and serving as Chair in the early 1980s. She was an active member of a long standing book club in Moretown and, in her later years, enjoyed a special group of swimmers in her aqua aerobics class in Berlin.
She is predeceased by her parents and her brothers Joe and John. She is survived by her husband, her two children, Elizabeth Pacheco and Susannah (Cody) Strauss, and three grandchildren, Madeline Gallagher-Strauss, Max Pacheco, and Pepper Strauss.
There will be a celebration of her life in Moretown come early Summer. Donations in her name may be made to the environmental charity of your choice or to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice.
