Walter 'Dane' Hughes, a spirited soul with a love for motors and family, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024. A resident of the Branford area, Dane was known for his passion for engines and his dedication to his family. For over 22 years, he operated The Truck Works of Lakeland, FL, where he built the company from the ground up and poured his heart into every project.
In his younger days, Dane was part of a pit crew, a testament to his love for speed and mechanics. But above all, his family was his pride and joy. Whether it was riding motorcycles, dirt bikes, four-wheelers, jet-skis, or boats, Dane cherished every moment spent with his children. He was a master at finding the best fishing spots, from freshwater lakes to old filled-in phosphate mines, always with his kids by his side.
Dane also enjoyed working on his property and attending concerts, where he could unwind and enjoy life. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
He is survived by his sons: Shaun Hughes and Patrick Hughes; his daughter: Sarah; sister: Dawn Rogers; brother: Drew Hughes; grandchildren: Dylan, Chase, Giavanna, Isabella; many extended family and friends.
There will be a graveside service to celebrate and remember his life on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2pm at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his parents.
