Walter Donald Schlacht, a beacon of gentleness and kindness, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in Dearborn, MI, having been born in Detroit, MI, on July 15, 1952. Walter's life was marked by his loving nature and the simple joys he found in the everyday beauty of the world around him.
Walter's early years in Detroit were filled with the bustling energy of a city in bloom, and he carried that vibrancy throughout his life. As a man who cherished the outdoors, he could often be found walking through the town or in the serenity of nature, pausing to feed the squirrels which he so loved. His gentle presence was a comfort to those he encountered, both human and animal alike.
In his passing, Walter leaves behind a tapestry of memories etched into the hearts of his family. He is survived by his adoring siblings: Annette Southard, Margo Grahl and her husband Steven, Bernie Schlacht, Jr., and Gary Schlacht. His nieces Jamie, Candy, Melonie, Carlene, and Brittany, along with his nephews Matthew and Joey, will forever hold onto the lessons of love and kindness he imparted. Walter now joins his beloved parents, Bernard and Edna Marguerite Schlacht, who preceded him in death, undoubtedly welcoming him with open arms.
Those who knew Walter understood that his quiet demeanor was a vessel for profound love and a kindred spirit to all living things. His actions spoke louder than words, and through them, he demonstrated the essence of a life well-lived. Walter was the embodiment of the gentlest touch, a reassuring smile, and a heart brimming with unconditional love.
As the sun sets on Walter's earthly journey, his legacy endures in the gentle whisper of the leaves, the playful scampering of squirrels, and the warmth of the sun on a clear day. He taught us to appreciate the simple pleasures and to approach life with a tender heart. Walter Donald Schlacht will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt the embrace of his kindness.
