Barbara Gower, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully at her home in Summertown, Tennessee, on September 19, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 16, 1963, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Fred McArthur Davis Sr. and Delana Sue Browder Cunningham.
Barbara was a fiercely independent and steadfast woman who approached life with strength, passion, and compassion. She loved spending time with her family, bowling, swimming, and enjoying the beach. Her warmth and friendliness ensured that she never met a stranger. A dedicated professional, Barbara served as a registered nurse at Quality Home Healthcare for over 30 years, providing compassionate care to the residents of Maury, Giles, Lawrence, and Lewis Counties in Tennessee. Her faith in the Church of the Nazarene was central to her life, guiding her kindness and dedication to others.
Barbara was married to her beloved husband, Malcom Gower, for 24 years. She is survived by her husband; her children, William John McQuilling Jr., Emily Crockett, and Belinda Adair; her stepchildren, Brittany Patterson and Blake Gower; her siblings, Freddie Davis, Danielle Lovell, Wanda Davis, and Robert Cunningham; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson on the way, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred McArthur Davis Sr. and Delana Sue Browder Cunningham.
Barbara’s memory will live on through her family, friends, and all who were touched by her compassion, strength, and love. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a woman who gave wholeheartedly to everyone around her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
