William (Chip) Osborne Wildes Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025. Born on January 15, 1952, Chip lived a life rich in love, dedication, and passion for his family, his community, and the outdoors.

A proud graduate of Valdosta State College, Chip earned master’s degrees in both Biology and Chemistry. Chip had a strong work ethic from a young age, starting his first job as a paperboy at just 12 years old. He always held a job throughout his life, but his true calling emerged when he joined SAFT in 1975, the year they opened their doors. Starting as a chemist in the early days of the company, Chip’s steadfast work ethic and expertise led him to become the Environmental Manager for North America. Chip worked for SAFT for 50 years up until his death, and he was so proud to have his family join him in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the company back in August of this year.

Chip's love for nature was evident in his passion for hunting deer and simply spending quiet moments outdoors observing the beauty of nature. His gentle and kind spirit was known to all who met him, and his infectious warmth made him a friend to many.

A man of faith and community, Chip was an active member of Park Avenue Church since 1982, where he also sang in the choir for over 20 years. That same year, he married his beloved wife, Louise, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Their home was the heart of family gatherings, where Chip was affectionately known for “Poppy’s Bar & Grill,” delighting his children and grandchildren with his famous pancake breakfasts and outdoor grilling.

Music was another of Chip’s lifelong joys. He played guitar and sang in several bands over the years, including his high school band “Changing Times,” his college band “Hummingbird,” and a Christian band called “Mended Hearts.” His playful nature, talent, and kindness left an enduring impression on all who knew him.

Beyond his immediate family, Chip was a committed community servant, appointed to the Lowndes County Planning Commission, always contributing to the betterment of his hometown.

Chip is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Louise Wildes of Valdosta, GA; his siblings Sharon (Donnie) Musgrove of Lilburn, GA; Maxie (Dee) Wildes of Wilmington Island, GA; Leah Wildes of Wilmington Island, GA; and JJ (Michelle) Wildes of Lake Seminole, GA. He also leaves behind three children: Trey (Melissa) Hauson of Hiram, GA; Megan (Richard) Welch of Valdosta, GA; and Cole (Taylor) Wildes of Valdosta, GA, with his cherished grandchildren Logan, Will, Evey, and Gabe Hauson; Carter and Rhett Welch; and Fox Wildes. He is also survived by three in-laws: Jim (Rebecca) Hendricks of Valdosta, GA; Jan Kramer of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and Jaye Connor of Athens, GA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

William “Chip” Osborne Wildes Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, William O. Wildes Sr. and Kathleen W. Wildes, and his brother Gregory Wildes.

Chip’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and kindness. His family and friends will forever remember him as a hardworking, fun-loving, and talented soul who never met a stranger, and whose warmth and generosity touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Chip’s life will be held with family and friends to honor his memory and the lasting impact he had on all who loved him.

A memorial service for Chip will be held at 11 am on Monday, November 3, 2025 at the Park Avenue Church sanctuary with visitation beginning at 10 am. Online condolences and memories may be shared on the obituary page at www.mclanecares.com.
