Jay Hammock age 72, formerly of Berea, passed away Thursday Oct. 9, 2025 in Lexington at UK Hospital. Jay was born in Berea to the late Arthur and Mary Alexander Hammock. Jay was also preceded in death by his siblings: Francis Marshall, Zella Burdine, and Claude Alexander.
Jay is survived by his wife of 48 years Sandra Asher Hammock, his brother Levant Gabbard Jr., sisters: Winnie Mae Mullikan, Betty (Clay) Russell, and Mary Ann (Elwood) Wilson, his nieces: Audrey Russell, Nina Wilson, and Sharon Miller, and nephews: Christopher (Andrea) Akers, David (Angie) Gabbard, Rodney (Pam) Stafford, Alan (Jermie) Asher, and Michael (Kayle) Asher, many great nieces and nephews and his dog Marilyn Monroe and cat Zoe.
Funeral services will be Thursday Oct. 16, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Lakes Funeral Home with Pastor David Gabbard officiating, burial will be in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday Oct. 16, 2025 from 11 am – 1 pm at Lakes Funeral Home. In his final act of his giving nature Jay chose to be an organ donor and was proud to be a donor.
