William McNeil, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Foxborough surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late Edward and Florence (Henahen) McNeil and the husband of the late Marie Louise (Murray) McNeil.
William was born in Boston on June 4, 1933. He was raised in Braintree where he was a graduate of Braintree High School, Class of 1951. William proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in the Korean War. He and his wife Marie were married on September 6, 1958. He has been a resident of Foxborough for the past 18 years and was a former long-time resident of Needham.
William was employed as an operations manager at AT&T in Boston and retired in 1989 after 35 years of service. A devout Catholic, William was a communicant of St. Mary's Church of Foxborough and a member of the Foxborough Knights of Columbus, Council 6063. While at Braintree High School, he was the starting center of the only undefeated state champion football team in the history of Braintree. He most enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
Loving father of Liana Pottéy and her husband Carl of Foxborough, Michelle Petrosky and her husband Arnie of Foxborough, Christina Casali and her husband Joseph of Dedham, Stephen McNeil and his wife Charlene of Mansfield, Edward McNeil and his wife Jana of North Pembroke, Michael McNeil and his wife Alexandra of Norfolk, Gerard McNeil and his wife Sandra of Long Island, NY, William McNeil and his wife Elaine of Scituate and the late Kenneth McNeil. Devoted grandfather of 24 and great grandfather of 6. Brother of the late Paul McNeil, John "Jack" McNeil and Marie Sweeney.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Monday, October 20 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Mary's Church, 58 Carpenter Street, Foxborough. Interment to follow at the National Cemetery in Bourne.
