Wilmer G. Schaeff, Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Traditions of Saginaw. Age 90 years. Son of the late Ernest and Anna (Bickel) Schaeff, Wilmer was born June 5, 1934, in Saginaw, Michigan. He served proudly in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post #439. Wilmer married Marie L. Herbin, his loving wife of 67 years, on March 23, 1957. She survives him. Wilmer was a pattern design leader at G.M. Powertrain. He was a member of Good Shephard Lutheran Church for 64 years. Wilmer was a lifelong musician who played banjo and accordion in multiple bands throughout the Midwest and was inducted into the Michigan Polka Hall of Fame. Wilmer was multi-talented and could fix anything.
Surviving besides his wife Marie are three daughters, one son and their spouses, Dorothy Schaeff, Goodrich, Michigan; Mark and Jill Schaeff, Saginaw; Mary Jo and Dale Pickelman, Holland, Michigan; Cindy and Randy Newbold, Huntington Beach, California; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene and Gene Stern; Lorraine and Fred Kueffner; one brother, Ernest and Arlene Schaeff; many nieces and nephews. Wilmer was preceded in death by two brothers, Hildred and Harold Schaeff.
Funeral Service will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway, Saginaw, Michigan. Pastor Paul Biber will officiate. A private burial will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery with Military Services conducted by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post #439. Friends may visit at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
