Burnett Ray Freeman (BR), age 85, passed away September 26, 2024 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He attended church at The River Community Church, in Cookeville.
He was preceded in death by his wife Judy Griffin Freeman, parents Boyd and Iva Freeman, brother-in-law Jim Griffin.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis Freeman, sister, Alice Freeman, brother-in-law, Fred Griffin (Sandra). He leaves behind his beloved dog Marley.
He is also survived by his nieces, Maritsa (David) Green, Amy Beck, Karla Griffin, and Amy Griffin, nephew, Randall Freeman (Jessica); great-nephews, Kyle (Becca) Green, Troy Green, Abram Roberts and Henry Freeman, Chase Griffin, Thomas Strange, Keizer Griffin Hodson. He leaves many other cousins and friends.
BR was especially blessed to have close lifelong friends Bob Swift (Sharon), John L. Stokely (Nancy), Mike Smith (Mary Jo) and the guys at the Motorcycle Shop-Jim Beasley, Ron Baker, and Tommy Kilgore. He always went to the shop on Tuesdays when Jim cooked a delicious meal.
BR graduated from Cocke County High School. He received a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Tennessee Technological University. He was employed by the State of Tennessee Highway Department for 48 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. He and Judy were involved in many activities in the Cookeville area. In their younger years they participated in the Kiwanis Kapers. Many stray cats and dogs made their way to their house. They were given loving homes, none were turned away. They sponsored many children through Compassion International.
To those friends who visited BR the last days of his life- thank you. They meant so much to him and to his family. To the many who lifted us up in prayer, we felt your love and support. Thank you to the staff at NHC-Cookeville and Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Everyone was so kind and compassionate.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2024 in Union Cemetery.
