Shirley Kitay Obituary

Kitay - Shirley, age 100, of Port Washington, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, after a very long journey with Alzheimer's disease. Her beloved husband Albert, preceded her in death in 2019. Shirley leaves behind many loving family members including her children, Hermine and Martin; her grandchildren, Adam, Jessica and Benjamin; her great-grandson, Isaac; and her sister, Doris. Other survivors include cousin, Susan; niece, Audrey; and great-niece Heather. Shirley had a long and successful career as a teacher and elected union representative. She was known for fighting for many causes she believed in. Shirley was an avid lover of ballet, theater, movies gardening and nature. She enjoyed going to her Berkshire house and seeing the culture and beauty of that area. She loved having family meals together. Shirley was generous, compassionate, and loving. Most of all she cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. Out of her many attributes, what stands out the most was her devotion to her family. We have missed her terribly during her years with Alzheimer's, and we will continue missing her, and keeping her close in our hearts forever. Services concluded.
