Benjamin Halvorsen Obituary
Benjamin James Halvorsen, born Jan. 23, 1973, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 12, 2024. Raised in the outskirts of Fox, Alaska by his parents Robert and Sophie Halvorsen, Benjamin spent most of his life on the land of his childhood home. He cherished the beauty of Alaska and the place where he grew up.
As the youngest boy of Robert and Sophie Halvorsen's six children, Ben was known for his adventurous nature and love for the outdoors. Ben spent most of his young adulthood out in the wilds of Alaska, seeking thrills and adrenaline while also pursuing a career in welding in which he had a natural talent for. While he spent long hours at work, he always made time for fun on the weekends. He loved playing paintball and spreading his love for the sport to others and he loved shredding the mountain on his snowboard. Ben found his biggest passion though in the majesty of the mountains, riding fresh powder on the fastest sled he could get. He worked hard and he played harder. He loved good food and, just like everything else he took an interest in, became an excellent cook. He was an avid reader, a gamer, and enjoyed an eclectic collection of music and movies, games, and books. He loved seeking knowledge and sharing it.
Ben had a deep love for his family, a great appreciation for God's creation and the beauty of life. He was always ready to have a laugh and tell a great story. That great big laugh and big presence will be dearly missed, but the smiles and laughter as he is reunited with his heavenly family must be wonderfully raucous.
Benjamin is preceded in death by his beautiful mother, Sophie Halvorsen; his beloved sisters, Geri Halverson and Sarah Zesiger; and his cherished nephew and niece, Ryan Zesiger and Tina Walker.
He is survived by and will be forever missed by his father, Robert Halvorsen; his sister, Emily Halvorsen and brother-in-law, Mark Crook; his brother, Henry Halvorsen; and his sister, Rachel Wing. Benjamin also leaves behind his nephews and nieces: John, Brittany Crook, Brian Crook, Robert Crook, Aaron Crook, Toby Crook, Desiray Crook, Crystal and Austin Gibson, Jayson and Chelsea Zesiger, Amber and Justin Meacham, Tayten Wing and Sophie Wing. Benjamin further leaves behind his great- nieces and nephews: Adalynn Crook, Brantley Crook, Charity Gibson, Vivian Zesiger, Vanessa Zesiger, Liam Zesiger, Oliver Zesiger, and Penelope Zesiger.
Benjamin's funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Shelter Bible Church at 2275 Horner Ct. Fairbanks, AK 99709. There will be a viewing at 1:30 p.m. and a 2 p.m. service and a potluck of Ben's favorite dishes to follow.
