James “Jim” O. Holder, 92, passed away on July 17, 2024 at the Enclave of East Louisville. Jim was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he spent most of his life, graduated from Fair Park High School and then entered the US Navy serving as a Gunner’s Mate during the Korean War on the USS LEO. He returned to his home after military discharge and pursued a career as a firefighter for 30 years obtaining he rank of Captain with the Shreveport Fire Department before retirement.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Faye Holder; parents, James M. Holder and Olie Salley Holder; and sister, Linda Faye Holder. Jim had 2 daughters, Linda Faye Gauthier and Sue Daniel (Russell), both of Louisville. He adored his grandchildren, Michael Scott Daniel (Kathleen) and Casey Daniel Payne (Jay), both of Charlotte, North Carolina. He had 4 great grandsons that brought him much happiness, Riggs Michael Daniel, Holder Scott Daniel, Henry Daniel Poole, and Beau Daniel Poole, all of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jim was fortunate to have many friends and family in Louisiana which referred to him with several nicknames, Holder, J.O., Jim, and Papaw. His favorite past time was fishing and along with his wife, spent many hours on Toledo Bend “wetting a hook”. Jim taught his grandson to fish which he continues today and attempted to teach his granddaughter which proved not quite as successful but enjoyable.
Jim was a member of Westport Road Baptist Church where he attended the men’s bible study and enjoyed many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 25 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown KY, beginning at 6:00 pm. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 5:00 pm. Jim will be buried alongside his wife at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
Jim now joins Faye, his favorite fishing partner, parents, sister, and a host of family and friends in a heavenly home.
We love you Papaw!
