Patricia Walker Obituary
Patricia Thomas Walker
August 25, 1929 - October 25, 2024
Patricia Thomas Walker passed away peacefully in Exeter, New Hampshire. Formerly of Bridgehampton, New York, Pat grew up during the Great Depression, World War II and the Korean War. Pat attended Bridgehampton School, graduated as the Salutatorian, and read her essay, "Is Democracy Understood?" Still a poignant topic today! When she moved to New York City she was the accessories editor at Holiday Magazine, a travel magazine that employed writers such as Truman Capote, Joan Didion, Lawrence Durell, James Michener, and E. B. White. Her boss was Roger Angell, who had been the New Yorker Magazine's first fiction editor and the great baseball writer.
She married Theodore G. Walker III at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church on February 17, 1951 and Pat and Ted moved to Westville, Connecticut before settling in nearby Woodbridge. While raising their three children, they often played tennis at the New Haven Lawn Club, bridge with friends, and Pat was an active member at the New Haven Junior League. Ted worked for 50 years as Vice President of Chatfield Paper Company in North Haven. When their children were grown, Pat received a Master's in Library Science and worked as a librarian at the Woodbridge Public Library and the Andrew Mellon Library at Choate Rosemary Hall School. After living in the New Haven area for over 50 years, with a home in Florida, ski house at Okemo Mountain, and two houses on Block Island, Pat and Ted retired to New London, New Hampshire.
Pat has joined Ted, her husband of 66 years, who passed away on August 26, 2017. She is survived by three children, Pamela Walker Anthony (Frank) in New Hampshire, Susan Thomas Walker in California, and Theodore George Walker IV in Mexico. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Thomas McKee Monahan (Carrie), Sarah Monahan Nathan (Danny), and Helen Ostby Anthony. Pat was proud to have four great-grandchildren, Catherine McKee Monahan, Natalie Thomas Monahan, Josie Monahan Nathan and Tyler Walker Nathan. She also has left behind her 90 year old younger sister, Barbara Thomas Green in Maryland and a 97 year old brother-in-law, Peter Thomas Walker in Connecticut.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church in the late spring of 2025. Memorial donations can be sent to the library of your choice!
