Willie Gene Davis entered into this world with a partner, his twin Nellie Jean, on May 20, 1940 to the union of Grace and James Davis, Sr. in Wisner, Louisiana. Having humbly served his GOD with a beautiful Spirit and servant filled life. Willie, as the Patriarch of the Davis and Wilford families, entered eternal rest on Sunday October 27, 2024 peacefully at home. Willie accepted Christ into his heart and made Jesus his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was then baptized in the Brushey Bayou by the late Reverend B.C. Cooper, Pastor of Holly Grove Baptist Church in Wisner, Louisiana. Willie grew up and worked on a country farm in Wisner, along with his parents and many siblings. Once school age, Willie began his education after being enrolled into Wisner Elementary and later Wisner Gilbert High School. Upon graduating high school Willie enrolled into Southern University, Baton Rouge. After leaving Southern, Willie began a journey that would take him from coast to coast and around the world that led him through New Orleans, Texas and other states landing in San Francisco, California. He lived with his brother Nate and wife Maxcine on Newhall St. It was 1965 in San Francisco that "Bo" began his forty-year Postal Service career where he provided "SERVICE" as Mail Processing machine operator and Vice President of the Mail Handlers Union Local 302. As Vice President of the Union, Willie touched countless number of lives while fighting for COLA- Cost of Living Allowances, a safe working environment, and a Quality Work Life (QWL) alongside Melvin Justice and President of the Mail Handlers Union, Alvin Gant. Willie would soon meet and marry Marion Davis and would eventually move to Oakland, California. Through their union, one son was born, Ron Davis as well as two granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren. Willie loved his family and supported Ron's dreams of becoming an entrepreneur to own his own business. He also enjoyed cherished family 'Sunday Soul food dinners where he shared wisdom and encouragement. Although the upbringing between Willie and Ron were different, Willie worked to display a great work ethic and set the standards high for Ron to follow. Willie's country upbringing clashed with Ron's upbringing in the city. Ron saw his dad as a strong father, provider, loving husband and family man. Willie wanted the best for his son, family and always strived to see Ron succeed in life. Despite the culture differences and different upbrings, the love for each other remained. Willie was blessed with two granddaughters, Heaven and Britney Davis. Time spent with Heaven allowed her to see her grandfather as a warm, caring and respectful man to all who knew and met him. Willie was active as he could be for his grandchildren while providing support and encouragement by attending swimming lessons, supporting hobbies, caring and respectful to all who knew him. Willie enjoyed Britney when she visited him in New Orleans. Willie was affectionately called Paw Paw and will be greatly missed. Willie loved to spend time with family, attending reunions, golfing, flying, driving long distances, playing dominoes and watching sports. More importantly, Willie loved the GOD he served. Willie did everything possible to honor his mother and father by flying across the country to care for his parents in their sickness making sure they had everything they needed until their passing. His desire was to simply honor his mother and father. Little did Will know that in April 1992, he would meet his future wife (Maria) who would become a supervisor in the unit he was assigned. Maria transferred into the facility from Richmond, California to the San Francisco Bulk Mail Center 1300 Evans St. in San Francisco. Willie married his soulmate Maria Harper September 20, 2004. Willie and Maria worked professionally until a twist of fate in 1996 required Maria to leave the Post Office. Willie stayed in touch, stood for TRUTH and supported his future wife during her darkest hour with unwavering faith and courage. Willie proposed in 2002 and married Maria on her Birthday 2004. Willie was Maria's biggest cheerleader soon after they met, always encouraging, motivating and supporting everything of GOD that's good. Before meeting his wife, Willie had already served 27 years. He had already received many awards to include, Special Achievement Awards, Certificates of Appreciation, and Service Awards. Upon retirement on July 25, 2005 after 40 years, Willie received an acknowledgement of his outstanding service and positive image to the American Public. Willie was affectionately known and called as BO, Paw Paw and Peanut Butter. Willie and Maria recently celebrated twenty years of Marriage, enjoyed his retirement traveling to places he never visited- Australia, Argentina, Rome and his favorite place -Cancun. Willie loved to eat and enjoyed his wife's cooking, loved seafood especially buffalo fish, soul food, his cakes, ice cream, cookies and snickers. Willie cherished the many loving neighbors and friends who supported him through his illness. Willie visited Wisner as often as he could to visit the sick and elderly, leaving a gift each and every time he visited. Willie, in 2006, continued to serve his GOD faithfully by joining The Mount Hermon Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Sean T. Elder. Willie worked in ministry with his wife who cooked from home to feed those less fortunate, Food for the Soul Ministry at Mount Hermon under the leadership of Dr. Pastor, Darold A. Ingram Jr, Prison ministry and offered support as needed for GODs glory. Willie was a quiet, humble gentle giant who was always praying, especially when Christ was being shared in the home to those who visited him and didn't know the Lord. Willie and Maria recently celebrated twenty years of marriage. Willie will be missed and cherished by all who knew him. Willie was preceded in death by his parents: James and Grace Davis; Brothers: Nathaniel Davis, James Davis, Jr., and Charles Davis. He leaves to cherish his memories, Maria, his devoted wife of 20 years, his son: Ron Davis; Grandchildren; Heaven Davis and Britney Davis; Great Grandchildren Nahla Figueroa and Noa Thomas; Siblings: Mazie Price, Nellie Jean (Elmo) Gaines, David (Lucy) Davis, George (Naomi) Davis, John Edward Davis, Clarence (Phyllis) Davis, Eunice P. Jones., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and the Mount Hermon Baptist Church family. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Mount Hermon Baptist Church located at 3512 US - 90 W, Westwego, LA 70094. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m., and the service will begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Darnold A. Ingram Jr., officiating and entombment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, Louisiana.
