Charles J. Mears, age 86 years, of Leisuretown, Southampton, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024. He is the beloved husband of Marcia "Mickey" (nee Helms) Mears. He is also survived by his daughters, Kathleen ("Kathy") Mears Grahn (Barry), and Susan ("Suzi") Mears Foster (Robert); his grandchildren, Emma and Molly Foster, and Christopher and Matthew Grahn; stepchildren, Jaymie Rosenberger Lacombe (Steve), Rob Rosenberger, David Rosenberger, and Jeff Rosenberger; and stepgrandchildren Aaron Lacombe (Erin) and Isaac Lacombe. He is the dear brother of Henry ("Hank") Mears and sister-in-law Ellen. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law Sandy Shomper, and Joyce Turney and many other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Edith (nee Pennypacker) and James Mears, his sister Joan Ward (nee Mears), and his infant sister Janet Marie Mears.
Born and raised in southern New Jersey, Chuck lived most recently in Leisuretown after residing in Fort Myers, Florida and Yardley, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Haddonfield High School and proud of his service in the US Air Force as a Control Tower Operator. After his time in the service he married Marilyn (nee Welty) Mears and they raised their daughters in Burlington Township, NJ. He obtained his bachelors degree from Rutgers University and worked in business administration for years with his final employment in the profession with the National Board of Medical Examiners in Philadelphia.
He was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles (affectionally called the "Iggles"), and Philadelphia Phillies. His favorite passion was barbershop music. Chuck was introduced to four-part harmony in high school and returned to it after seeing a Pine Barons show. Barbershop was a huge part of all that he enjoyed over his lifetime and he sang with top level choruses and many fine quartets. He is a 50+ lifetime member with the Barbershop Harmony Society. Chuck and Mickey (his favorite Sweet Adeline) bonded over and enjoyed their shared love of barbershop music and their rescue dog, Dolly.
There will be no funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a future date at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Barbershop Harmony Society (via barbershop.org).
Final arrangements are under the direction of the Bradley & Stow Funeral Home 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Road,
Medford, NJ 08055.
