Michael Yanachik Obituary

Michael Tom "Yance" Yanachik, Jr., 79, of Finleyville, Somerset Township, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024, peacefully, in his home. Born January 26, 1945, in New Eagle, he was a son of the late Michael Sr. and Anne Perecko Yanachik. Yance was a 1963 graduate of Monongahela High School and had worked at U.S. Steel - Clairton Works until his retirement. Yance loved hunting and fishing. He was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan and had attended several Super Bowls in his lifetime. He enjoyed playing softball for several teams around the area and helped coach his son, Tommy's soccer, baseball and midget football teams. He loved to cook; his garlic steak in a cast iron skillet was a special treat for his kids and you could often find him building a fire and preparing a spit for family reunions, parties and other events. Yance is survived by a son, Tom Yanachik, III of Bentleyville; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jo (Bryan) Thornberg of Oakdale; four sisters, Monica Bright, Kathryn Greenwood, Jean (Ray) Ghilani, and Carol Howarth; a brother-in-law, John Wood; along with several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia L. Wood. Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering from 5 to 7 p.m., the time of a brief service, Tuesday, September 17, in the Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, (724) 258-6767.
