I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember when Gene came to live with my parents, Gladys and Frank. He was a wonderful big brother to me. He always made me smile. I remember one day Grandmother Galloway made two lemon pies and Gene and I ate them until we were sick and he still made me laugh by asking if I thought Grandmother would be making a chocolate pie next.He was a lovely person and anyone who knew him was blessed

Dear Tara and all your family,
I never had the pleasure of meeting your Dad in person, but I have the very great pleasure of calling Tara a great friend, always. Know that he is at peace, looking proudly down on all his family and friends, who have such affection.
Love as always
from your Irish family, and we know how to pray. Xx Rach

May God bless all four of you and your families. I worked in the office at K&B with your dad. He was the best boss anyone could ever have. I hope heaven has lots of coffee, because he would drink eight to ten cups a day at work and then say he had trouble sleeping. Nelson was a great guy, and will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I have only known Gene for a few short years, but will forever remember his terribly bad jokes and the wonderful laugh that would make up for the awfulness of the jokes. Mr. Gene gave me so many smiles. My love, prayers and thoughts are with his family.

To Beth, Corey, Chris, and Tara:
I still can't believe Uncle Gene has left us. Seems so surreal. I hardly have a memory growing up without remembering getting Corey and Mike in trouble by going to tell Uncle Gene and sure enough he would take our side, right Beth? I will miss you always, Uncle Gene. To you 4, you were lucky to have him as a father. He was always like a 2nd Dad to me and I'll always be greatful for that. Even though time drifts us apart I love you all always.

I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO WORK FOR PATIO DRUGS. A WONDERFUL PLACE TO WORK AND A TRUE FAMILY ATMOSPHERE. GENE AND I WORKED SIDE BY SIDE FOR FIVE YEARS. A TRUE "GENTLE" MAN. THE WHOLE BYRD FAMILY REFLECT SO WELL ON GENE AND HIS
LOVE OF FAMILY.
MY PRAYERS ARE FOR THE BYRD FAMILY, AND THE LARGER PATIO FAMILY WHO MOURN
HIS LOSS. AS A CHRISTIAN, I KNOW THAT
I WILL SEE GENE AGAIN. THAT IS THE PROMISE. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND.

Tara,
I see from all the loving descriptions and comments about your dad (as well his photo) such a resemblance with you. If I could easily mend your broken heart with a piece of tape or squirt of glue I'd do it in a second. But that being impossible, I pray our friendship will help you through this and anything painful that you face. Your family and you are in my prayers and thoughts. Love you always, Mary Catherine

Dear family,
We are so sorry for your loss and we will miss Gene very much. We looked forward to seeing him and Gloria when we went dancing. Gene always had a new joke and it amazed us how he could remember all of them. He was always happy eventhough his knee was giving him problems. He wasn't a complainer. Just made the best of the situation. Gene would always give us advice about cruises. He did a few. He made his mark in this world and made new friends who will miss him very much.

Those of you who knew my dad know how much he loved to play golf. there is a term in golf which best describes my dad, he was a "grinder". This may sound a little stange to the non golfers but in golf its the ultimate compliment. The grinders are the guys who don't have the perfect swing or the best putting stroke but they grind out every round to the best of there ability. Its not allways pretty its never perfect but it gets the job done. thats how i think my dad approached life. Only a grinder could fix a car bumper or anything else with duct tape,he did.Only a grinder could rip out carpet and walls in a flooded house and rebuild it over and over again. The grinders of the world, like my father, usualy dont become rich or famous but thats ok its not there style anyway.they take the love of family and friends as there reward.I only hope i paid you back with enough i love you dads to cover what i owed you.Just in case i am a little short heres on more" I LOVE YOU DAD" and always will. Love chris
