Age 64. Phil was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked for the Omaha World Herald, and retired from the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, NE.
Preceded in death by his maternal and fraternal grandparents; nephew Nicholas James Paul Harris; and great-nephew Oliver James Van Dyke.
Survived by his father Alvin F. Burkett; mother Susan M. Burkett; siblings: Mary A. Burkett, John E. Burkett, and Diane M. Scott and husband Stephen D. Scott; niece Melissa S. Palmer and family; nephews: Jacob T. Van Dyke and family, Luke A. Van Dyke and family, and Joseph P. Allison and family; nieces: Marcia E. Van Dyke and family, Jacquelyn K. Rico and family, and Stephanie M. Cooper and family; aunts and uncles: Fred and Kitty Burkett, Jim and Vickie Habersack, Steve and Suella Habersack, and Pat and Willie Manis; and numerous cousins.
In memory of Philip, memorials suggested to the Henry Doory Zoo; PBS; Sienna Francis House; or Fontenelle Forest.
