John Louis Walters, 92, of Satsuma, Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Alvin Walters and Ethel Meyer. After proudly serving 20 years in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechan-ic, he and his family relocated to Florida, where he worked another 20 years as a diesel engine mechanic with ComCar Trucking in Auburndale.
John was preceded in death by his first wife, Al-ice Earlene Walters; his sisters, Louise Brunson, Alvina "Tina" Cauldwell, and Ruth "Tissie" Paul; his brother, Alvin "Bubba" Walters; and his step-granddaughters, Angie Kennedy and Anndrea Kennedy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ju-dith Walters of Satsuma, Florida; his sons, John Louis Walters Jr. (Jacki) of Alaska and Allen D. Walters of California; his daughter, Gwendolyn Gonzales of Oklahoma; and his stepsons, Wayne Kennedy, Wade Kennedy, and Warren Kennedy. He also leaves behind his grandchil-dren: John Louis Walters III (Caiti) of Florida, Steven Walters (Melissa) of Texas, Richard Gonzales (Barbara) of Tennessee, and Alicia Gonzales of Oklahoma; as well as great-grandchildren: Cannon Walters, Nolan Walters, Rose Graycey, Avelyn Walters, Lilith Walters, Aeiol Gonzales, and Roeh Gonzales.
A dedicated servant of Christ, John worked tire-lessly at Welaka Baptist Church, serving as soundman, trustee, usher, and was lovingly known as the "candy man."
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 6–7 p.m. at Welaka Baptist Church, followed by a service at 8 p.m. with Dr. Ken Johnson officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida, with mili-tary honors rendered by the United States Air Force.
