Richard Bowlby Obituary

Richard Adams Bowlby of Sequim, Washington, peacefully passed away on September 6, 2024, at his home with his loving wife, Annie and friends by his side. He was 84. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sequim. A Graveside Service with full military honors will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery at a later date. Richard was born December 26, 1939, in Farmington, Connecticut, to Lester Raymond and Ruth Abigail (Adams) Bowlby. He proudly served as an Independent Duty Corpsman in the US Navy, stationed in Japan and Spain. Upon retiring from the US Navy in 1980 as a Master Chief, he then attended West Georgia College where he earned a master's degree in psychology and philosophy and worked for Child Protection Services for the State of Rhode Island for 14 years. Richard was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he was involved in various callings with the Church; most notably serving as a Branch President in the Philadelphia area. His love for his fellow man and Savior Jesus Christ was reflected in his selfless service to others, serving anywhere he was able. He is remembered by his fellow Church members for his time spent working on Genealogy and doing Temple work for others. Richard is survived by his devoted wife Annie Oliver Bowlby; three daughters, Christina Boykin, Debby Thornton and Jeanine Emerick; son Michael Bowlby and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents and his second wife Dorothy Irene (Garrison) Bowlby. Sequim Valley Chapel is honored to serve the family.
