Mayford E. Mathes, Sr., 78 of Midland, Texas was called home on June 3, 2024. A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.
Mayford affectionately known as "Cat or Pappy Cat", was born to Hazel Mae Ogle and James Robert Mathes on October 1, 1945 as the fifth oldest sibling of the seven. He was a father of three, full of love and protection for his family and others. He wanted to ensure everyone was taken care of. He enjoyed working at the shop. He worked for M.F. Machen from 1962 to 1986 was ranked #1 on dozers and pulling units in the state. He then started M&M Construction, Inc. in 1984. In 2000 the name was changed to CJJ Construction, Inc. He travelled to Tennessee many times to see friends and family. He had cousins in North Carolina he would visit as well. His favorite movies were Westerns and old movies. He loved watching his grandkids run track, play basketball and other events in which they were involved.
Cat was a survivor of prostate cancer, lung cancer and colon cancer. He loved his great grandkids and enjoyed playing with them. He loved bluegrass and country music. Mayford loved his banjo and other instruments. One of his favorite pastimes was playing Yahtzee, card games and board games of all types.
Mayford is survived by his wife, Patricia; three sons, Mayford Jr. and Chantel and their five kids, Simon and Kelly, Eleigh and Jaxon, Armanae and Josh, Everly, Paladin, Bram and Berkley, Madeline, son, Joe and Ale and their kids Levi, Joely, Bernardo and son, James Mathes; two sisters, Grace and Fleeta; many nieces and nephews.
Mayford is preceded in death by his father and mother, James Mathes and Hazel Ogle; sisters, Vivian Blair and Donna Mathes; brothers, George Mathes and James D. Mathes.
