Patricia Gray Obituary

God blessed our world with Pat for 95 years and has now called her back to shine in Heaven. Pat was the daughter of Carmine and Deborah (Fulcher) Davis of Newport News and was predeceased by her parents; brother, Winter Carmine Davis Jr.; and her sister Onella O'Conner. She was born in October, 1928 and spent her early years in Cape Charles. She thought it was wonderful, or in her southern way, "it was just grand".

Pat graduated from Longwood College with a degree in teaching. She fell in love and married a Naval Academy ensign, Basil F. Gray Jr. in 1954. Throughout their naval career, Pat kept the home managed and raised their four children as the family moved about the U.S. She was fortunate to raise her children mostly in Virginia Beach. She taught elementary school after graduation and later put her education to work as a teacher's aide.

Active and vocal in her church, neighborhood, and community, Pat maintained her interest, opinions, and concerns of politics and her favorite sports teams until the very end. She was rumored to have been a wicked bridge player but the fun she had with her bridge groups shadowed her competitive drive. Always welcoming a word search, jigsaw, or crossword puzzle, Pat had the amazing ability to make words and pieces fit. She was also a great cook.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of sixty-nine years, CDR. Basil F. Gray Jr., USN (Ret.); daughters, Deborah L. Parker (Larry) and Cynthia A. Gray; and sons, Basil F. Gray III (Gisele) and Phillip M. Gray (Tricia). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Wesley Parker (Anna), Katarina Watney (Caleb), Jakob, Nicole, and Harrison Gray.

A memorial service will be held at WindsorMeade, Kensington Room, 3900 Windsor Hall Dr., Williamsburg, VA on November 11th at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.

Pat was my neighbor all during the 70´s...she was like a second mother to me! She not only raised her own 4 children, but looked after mine as well, to keep me on the right path with her wisdom. Something that I will never forget! Both my children, Curtis and Carolanne turned out to be wonderful loving, caring adults. Thanks Pat for helping me through the "toddler years". I sincerely hope you have found Frank. He loved you as much as I did. Can´t believe it´s been a year! Rest well, beautiful.

I am so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. It made the recent visit all that more important to me. She was as my mom's sister, my last close family relative. I will always remember her fondly, especially the last time because she was so up beat as she had been her entire life. May God's peace and comfort come to you.
