Carma L. Gagnon, age 92 of Akron, Indiana died after a short illness on August 18, 2024 at 5:20 a.m. at Life Care Center Rochester where she was a patient for three months.
She was born on April 13, 1932 in Wabash, Indiana to Chester and Thelma (Fearnow) Middleton. Her first marriage was to James Edward Backus and later were divorced. She lived in Wabash until she met and married Ronald Gagnon from Akron, Indiana. After living in Mentone and the Beaver Dam area, they moved to Akron where she spent most of her life. Ron and Carma were married 61 years before he passed away on May 3, 2020.
Carma worked as a USDA inspector for Kralis Brothers for 20 years. She then worked in miscellaneous jobs. Her last job was at US Coil in Warsaw, Indiana where she retired in April, 1994. She attended the Silver Creek Church of God when her health allowed her to do so. Carma enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets and throws for other people.
Surviving Carma is a son: Steven (spouse Linda) Backus of Akron, IN; stepson: Steven (spouse Kathy) Gagnon of Claypool, IN; stepdaughter: Barbara (spouse Tim) Hienbaugh of Wabash, IN; and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding Carma in death are her parents, husband: Ronald Gagnon, son: Daniel D. Backus, daughter: Debra L. Backus, grandson: Daniel D. Backus, Jr. and a brother: Eugene Middleton.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. At the Earl-Love Funeral Home, 811 E. Rochester Street, Akron, Indiana 46910. The funeral service will follow the visitation with Pastor Tom Craig officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery.
