Auden Terraine Schraeder, born in Willits, CA on September 22, 1976, passed peacefully surrounded by his adoring family on September 15, 2023, after a 3+ year battle with brain cancer.
Often referred to as, "THE most interesting man in the world", Auden lived a life full of adventure (traveling the world making TV documentaries, living abroad, writing music, playing in bands, etc.) and was known for his broad smile, wry sense of humor, herculean strength, courage, unfailing positivity and ability to make and keep lifelong friends.
After graduating from UC Santa Barbara, he discovered his love of San Francisco and his passion for medicine. He graduated from Samuel Merritt University and started his dream career working as a Physician Assistant in emergency rooms and urgent cares throughout the Bay Area.
Despite his diagnosis of glioblastoma, Auden insisted on continuing to see patients at work and packing in as much adventure, fun and joy as possible (traveling, sailing remote seas, marrying the love of his life, Brieanna, adopting a rescue dog) and never once complained.
He is survived by his wife Brieanna Schraeder-Harvey, parents Jeanne FitzGerald and Tim Schraeder (Camille Schraeder), brother Justin Schraeder (Christa Randall), sister Victoria Kelly (Christopher Kelly), nieces Maya Schraeder, Eliana Schraeder, and Charlotte Kelly and his beloved dog Bobo.

It's been a while since I last worked with Auden at UCSF. He was a tech in the ED for years while he finished up his pre-reqs. Auden was the kind of guy you could call for help and not only would he be there but he'd arrive with a smile and an eagerness to help. And learn. I'm sure he was a great PA as he was always asking questions about a patient's diagnosis or treatment. He really wanted it! I was so proud of him for getting into PA school. Knowing his sense of humor and good energy, I'm sure he was joy to work with. And no doubt his family and friends will miss him. He left us too soon: I never got to hear the end of his sugar glider stories!
