Wesley Dale Humphriss, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully and without fear on October 2, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born on January 25, 1932, in Northampton, MA, Dale lived a life defined by devotion, service, and innovation. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts in 1954 with a degree in Chemistry, he proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant and fighter pilot in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1957.
In 1954, Dale married the love of his life, Nancy Ruth Drexel, beginning a marriage that spanned 71 years. Together, they built a family and a life rooted in love, perseverance, and shared adventure.
Dale's career as a chemical researcher led him across the globe. He worked with Kodak in Rochester, NY; Memorex in Santa Clara, CA; Spectra Physics in Indianapolis, Indiana; and Green Corporation in Sydney, Australia, and Jerusalem, Israel. His pioneering work contributed to the original design of the floppy disk, a testament to his sharp intellect and forward-thinking spirit.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dale was an Eagle Scout leader, avid golfer, dedicated traveler, and a man who deeply valued friendship and community. He cherished his role as a devoted husband and father, always present with encouragement, wisdom, and humor.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Fanny; sister, Carol; daughter, Anne; and grandsons, Daniel and Christopher. Dale is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Andy and Eric; sister, Audry Lindquist; brother, Glenn; and his great-granddaughter, Lisa Isabella. He will be remembered with love and gratitude by his family and by the many lives he touched.
