Elizabeth Roth Obituary

Roth, Elizabeth, - 97, of Vineland, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2023. Born in 1926 in Czechoslovakia, Elizabeth was 16 years old when the Nazis forced her family into concentration camps. In the end, only she and a sister survived; her parents and three younger brothers did not. After the war Elizabeth met Sam, another survivor, whom she married and emigrated to America in 1949. Like many other Holocaust survivors, they settled on a chicken farm in Cumberland County NJ where they raised their three sons. During Elizabeth's 74-year history in Cumberland County, she and her family developed several hotels and restaurants including Denny's, Hampton Inn and others. She loved working alongside her employees and interacting with customers. To them, Elizabeth was fondly known as "Mama". Elizabeth is survived by three sons, Carl (Harriet), Ed (Judy) and Henry (Barbara); eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Sam, and her sister, Rella. Her parents and three brothers all died in Auschwitz, Leib, Feige, Fishel, Yur, and Shlomo.

A funeral service was held Sunday, December 31, 2023 at 11 a.m. from Beth Israel Congregation, 1015 East Park Avenue, Vineland. Interment will follow in Alliance Cemetery, Norma.
