Russell Reed Obituary

Russell Lee Reed, 80, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at home.
He was born at home in Mayport on March 4, 1945, a son of the late Lloyd Arthur Reed and Helen Leola (Sowers) Reed.
He married the former Janet Eileen Gearhart. They enjoyed many loving years together prior to her death.
Russ worked as a coal truck driver for many years. He drove for Benjamin Coal, Doverspike Coal and Benson Trucking.
Following the loss of Janet, Russ found great companionship with Lorie (Slagle) Abram. They enjoyed holidays and getting together with their families. Russ loved his boys, his grandchildren and the Lord.
In his free time, he especially enjoyed tractor pulls, boating and going fishing.
He is survived by three sons, James Reed, William (Kayla) Reed, and Randy (Chris) Reed, all of Punxsutawney; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Jordan and Logan Reed, Taylor (Richie) Lucas, Tyler, Amaya, Kyah and Ryan Reed; three great-grandchildren, Karthyn Lucas, Remie Lucas and Alexander Reed; and one brother, Raymond (Melva) Reed of Ringgold.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet, and four sisters, Fay Dinger, Mildred Schreckengost, Shirley Bish, and Carlene Heitzenrater.
Friends will be received from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m., officiated by Bill Foster. Interment will be at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Ringgold.
