Robert F. Schalk Sr.

Robert F. Schalk Sr., 95, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday March 22, 2024, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Memorials may be left in Roberts name to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan, Private inurnment will be held in Andalusia Cemetery.
Robert was born on April 7, 1928 in Quincy, the son of Frank and Catherine Schalk. He married Fern Frank on January 17, 1951, in Swedona Lutheran Church.
He had been employed as a machinist at Eagle Signal for 27 years and later worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, until his retirement. Robert was a United States Navy Veteran, having served at the end of World War II.
Robert had attended St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island and belonged to several square dancing groups through the years.
Robert loved fishing, boating on the Mississippi River, square dancing, bicycling and traveling the country with his wife, Fern.
Survivors include his daughter, Dianne Schalk (Dewat Chaudhry, M.D.), Rock Island; son, Robert (Pam) Schalk Jr., East Moline; daughter-in-law, Brenda Schalk, Matherville; grandchildren: Benjamin Schalk, Amanda Schalk, Meghan (Viminda) Shafer, Heather (Mike) Whittaker, Eric Schalk, Brian (Melissa) Keller and T.Leo (Stacey) Keller; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Schalk; son, Michael Schalk; sisters: Millie Forrester, Carlene Adams; brothers: Art Schalk, Joe Schalk and Frank Schalk.
