Diane Fry Obituary

Diane Fry

November 14, 1934 - September 1, 2024

Diane Fry, 89, of Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, at The Summit of Bettendorf.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, and a service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Following services, her ashes will be placed in the St. Paul Memorial Garden and a luncheon will be held at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the QC Symphony.

Diane was born November 14, 1934, in Chicago, a daughter of Earld and Olga (Forslin) Soldmann Sr. During her younger years, Diane lived in various parts of the country, eventually settling in the QC area with her children, where she put herself through school, and graduated from Black Hawk College with a Registered Nursing Degree, working at various hospitals within the community and eventually retiring from Trinity Hospitals in 2005.

Throughout her life, Diane was a multi-faceted, multi-talented lady, who enjoyed all aspects of living life. She loved to travel, and stay active, golfing, swimming, playing pool, dancing, movies, live theater, every kind of game, and especially all the time spent with family. During her retirement, she also concentrated on volunteering. Her love of flowers and music led to her volunteering at the Quad City Botanical Gardens, and the Quad City Symphony, where she worked tirelessly to help Chair and organize fundraising events.

Diane was passionate about politics, and helped organize and participate in the Iowa Democratic Caucus; she was also a person of faith and was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Davenport.

Diane was loved and will be deeply missed by family and friends, for her convictions, strong will, and most definitely her sense of humor!

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Wayne (Kathy) Mahoney, Durant, Iowa, and Dawn Barlett, Moline, Ill., Deborah Williams, Moline, Ill., Eugene (Konnie) Fry, Colona, Ill., and Jen (Lalen) Schoech, East Moline, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and numerous close friends including Carol Ehlers.

Diane was preceded by in death by her son, Jeffrey Mark Mahoney; parents, Earld Soldmann Sr and Olga Doucet; sister and brother-in-law, LaVergne (Edward) Stone; and brother, Earld "Whitey" Soldmann Jr.

The family would like to extend their great appreciation to the Summit of Bettendorf and Heartland Hospice for the amazing care given to Diane.
