Frances Barnes Obituary
December 15, 1939 - April 25, 2025
Frances L. Barnes, 85, of Lake Alfred, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025.
Born on December 15, 1939, Frances was a proud graduate of Rock Island Senior High School. A woman of great determination and entrepreneurial spirit, she built a successful career as a licensed real estate broker before founding her own business, Active Mobility, which she operated for over two decades. Her fierce independence and drive were evident in every chapter of her life.
Frances was known and loved for her adventurous spirit and feisty personality. She had a deep love for animals and a strong moral compass, guided always by her convictions. Her zest for life led her on many adventures around the globe, including one of her most treasured memories: riding the Concorde while working at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Wisconsin. Whether she was traveling or playing cards, Frances approached every experience with boundless enthusiasm.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sue Kelly of Haines City, Florida; stepson Jimmy Barnes; stepdaughter Sue Tevis of Granville Illinois; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister Mimi Ralston of Florida; Doug Ralston of Dallas, Texas; and Alma Hicks of Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Barnes, and her brothers, David Ralston and Gordon Ralston.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Ben Butterworth Parkway on River Drive in Moline, Illinois.
May her memory be a blessing and a source of comfort to all who knew and loved her.

I worked with "Frannie"-as Jim lovingly called her-for just a couple of years, but she and Jim became very good friends. I will keep her and Jim both in my thoughts and prayers.
