Russell Merkel Obituary

Russel Merkel, 85, of Muhlenberg, Pennsylvania, passed away at his home on December 23, 2023 in Muhlenberg, PA. He was the husband of Elaine J. (Lorah) Merkel with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Russel Merkel and Violet (Kulp) Kreider. Russel was a graduate of Exeter High School class of 1957. Russel was a proud veteran, serving his country in the United States Marines. He worked at Brandywine Properties as a HVAC maintenance technician until his retirement. He loved working and especially fixing things around his kids and grandkids homes. In addition to his wife, Russel is survived by his children, Gary L., husband of Sandra, of Temple and Keith W., husband of Peg, of Cumru. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Felicia, Lindsey, Kayla, Alex, Riley and Erin, along with his great grandchildren, Sage and Lily. Russel is also survived by his sister Stacy, wife of Jim Manning of Leinhartsville. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday December 28, 2023 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, with services beginning at 2:00pm at Lutz Funeral Home Inc.,2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606.
