Beverly Hayes Obituary

1927-2024

Curious, lively and warmhearted

Beverly was born in Kansas, the oldest child of Azeal Boyd ,a teacher and Carl Boyd ,a preacher. She was a child in the great depression and a teen during World War Two. Beverly studied journalism at Northwestern in Chicago where she met Howard Cederberg. They married and raised two daughters Kathleen and Laurie. In 1967 she moved from Oklahoma to California (hills oh my!) Here she worked as a writer and an editor for the Tri Valley News in Danville . Beverly had a love of learning and a joy in telling people's stories. She interviewed Ella Fitzgerald (who shared her sandwich), a young Bjorn Borg and Nancy Reagan (who told her she kept a loaded gun on her nightstand ) among countless other interesting people. She married Frank Hayes in the early 1980's.They lived in Mississippi and then Seattle before settling in Tuolumne County- Twain Harte then Columbia . Bev and Frank went canoeing in the Tetons, studied painting at the Georgia O'Keeffe museum and made many other Road Scholar trips. Beverly enjoyed her book club, Zen group, Gourmet group and the City College exercise class. She lived with a sense of wonder. Beverly loved people, nature, literature, art, theater and music. She is survived by her brother Carl, her children, her stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephew and many friends. Our lives a richer for having known and loved Beverly
