Carole Gregory Obituary

Montgomery - Nov. 24, 1937-Oct. 11, 2024 Carole Jean Gregory, born Nov. 24, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, passed away on October 11, 2024 in Montgomery, Texas of cancer.

She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Beatrice St. Claire and Robert Charles Griffin. She was born in Chicago and they lived in Indiana before settling in California in the 1940's. She graduated from Rosemead High School.

She married James Vernon Gregory in 1956 and they were the parents of six children: James Jr. preceded his mother in death; Charisse, wife of Kenneth Weaver; Bambi Stenroos; Diana, preceeded her mother in death, wife of Matthew Graves, Carol Ann wife of Jeffery Hayden; Barbee Ann wife of Thomas J Groshko. The family lived in Simi Valley since 1967 until Carole moved to live with her daughter, Barbee, in Montgomery, Texas for the last 6 months of her life.

Carole was active as a leader in Girl Scouts and Job's Daughters International. She worked many years for Pacific Bell and Hallmark cards. She was a skilled seamstress and baker, making extravagant wedding cakes for her daughters weddings. Carole loved genealogy and did extensive research into her and her husbands family history. She was a loving caretaker of her family as well as the kids in the neighborhood and also cared for her mother and mother-in-law until their deaths.

Carole is survived by her 4 daughters and sons-in-law; 11 grandchildren (two other grandchildren preceded Carole in death); seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Bobette Vander Heyden of Wildomar, CA; and Sherri Kreissig of Idaho., plus many beloved family and friends.

She will be laid to rest along with her husband at the Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to St. Judes Hospital; www.stjude.org.
